Investing in the Future: Mentoring Flint’s Next Generation
The Flint Men's Community Action Resource (MCAR) is proud to announce our 16th annual 'Day at the Lake' mentoring initiative. Our mission is simple but vital: to provide leadership, positive mentorship, and life skills to young men in our community who are in need of strong male role models.
When Flint Public Schools let out this June, we kick off a two-part experience designed to build character and outdoorsmanship:
-
Skill-Building Intensive (Saturday, June 6 | 9 AM – 3:30 PM): A comprehensive training day covering knot tying, casting, fish cleaning, DNR regulations, and boater safety. Most importantly, we emphasize the "soft skills" of respect, accountability, and discipline.
-
The Fishing Derby (Saturday, June 13): Students who complete the training are invited to Shay Lake for a full day of fishing. To ensure their journey continues, every participant receives their own brand-new fishing rod, reel, and fully stocked tackle box.
We are committed to keeping this program 100% free for every young man. To do this, we rely on the generosity of local businesses and individuals. Your sponsorship helps cover:
-
Fishing gear for the boys.
-
Transportation
-
Nutritious meals and event prizes.
Last year, we mentored 60 young men, and with your help, we can reach even more in 2026. Join us in showing these young men that their community is invested in their success.
